I found a shot glass of milk in the fridge. We've been trying all ways to get the tyke to drink his milk, and Hubs came up with this. It worked, because he drank two shot glasses before bed tonight.

February 1st

I made it one month! Eleven to go. Hubs got this for our son to sleep with. He is currently sleeping on top of it.

January 31st

This is the only decent picture I took today.

January 30th

I took LOTS of pictures of food today. Mostly of sticky buns, and of crab bisque.


I read this tip (can't remember where) from a food photographer, "Food likes directional light." I think these two soup pictures nicely illustrate this point. The first is with the flash pointed directly up at the ceiling. The picture feels flat. In the second one, the flash was pointed to the right, and the flash enhanced the ambient light that was already coming from that direction. I think this picture has more depth to it.

January 29th

I read afwell's tips on "dragging the flash" and decided to experiment with my Speedlite. This action shot is in no ways in focus, but I like how the water droplets are frozen, even though my shutter speed was 1/60. Will experiment more with this.

January 28th

I've been playing around with the speedlite, trying to figure out how to shoot in our house with very tall ceilings. Our living room looks semi-neat, which is so far from the truth.

January 27th

One of my students gave me this potholder - very sweet! I totally remember making these when I was a kid. Although, mine were never this pretty. And I'd just like to say, I so love natural light.

January 26th

I snapped this with my camera phone, because I didn't have time to grab my dslr. The tyke was playing the floor, and then he basically keeled over and fell asleep. I came home to find him like this. Gramps (the babysitter) said he had been sleeping for about 45 minutes.

January 25th

This is an entremet with a biscuit jocunde imprime. From what I can gather, a entremet is a fancy layered dessert, and a biscuit jocunde imprime is a printed sponge cake. The cake is very thin, and serves as the outer border of the dessert. Mine is layered with cake, vanilla bean mousse, and a tangerine glaze.

The tyke wanted to try it.

January 24th

I am now teaching in the music room at my school, instead of the art room. Not as colorful, but still pretty interesting.
